19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his initial title for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid period, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's first championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court from March of the previous year.

Success also means the Russian has won twenty-one championships at 21 distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my children at once, so to win a title is particularly special," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his last six finals, including in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and regular reactions on court had caused some to doubt if his capacity to compete at the highest level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, striving to advance forward and play assertively, reinforced by an better service.

The champion recovered from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair swapped break points in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden professional championship, seized the initiative to force a decider.

The opponent defended four initial break points in a tight final set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, he clinched the title with a rally at the net, with his opponent unable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
